Co-Op Solar
You must be an KVREMC member to participate in the program.
Nope! The great thing about the Co-Op Solar program is that you can get solar energy even if you’re renting.
To be eligible, you must be a member of Kankakee Valley REMC.
Absolutely! KVREMC will advise you on how many blocks are available and you are eligible to purchase.
This program will not create a rebate on your bill each month.
Kankakee Valley REMC is offering a program that will allow you to purchase Co-Op Solar blocks at the current rate of .20 cents each per month for up to one half of your average annual electricity use. The charge for the number of shares you agree to purchase will be billed on your monthly electric bill.
When you participate in Co-Op Solar, you purchase a “blocks” of solar power. Each share you buy gives you access to solar energy. You will need to sign a one-year contract with the cooperative when agreeing to participate in the program.
As with any solar array, cloudy weather means reduced solar production. But with Co-Op Solar, you get the benefit of solar panels spread across three states. So, when it is cloudy in Wanatah, that doesn’t mean the sun isn’t shining on an array at another location.
Currently, the arrays are in Peru, Wanatah, Wheatfield, Laotto and Danville, Indiana, as well as St. Genevieve and Perryville in Missouri and Paris, Illinois.
