The Energy Assistance Program (EAP) helps eligible households pay heating and electric costs through a one-time annual benefit paid directly to the utility provider. The program may also assist households that are disconnected or at risk of disconnection. EAP is federally funded through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and may be available even if utilities are included in rent.
Winter Moratorium:
KV REMC may not terminate residential electric service from December 1 through March 15 for any member that is eligible for and has applied for assistance under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), administered by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) under IC 4-4-33.
Summer Moratorium:
KV REMC may not terminate residential electric service on any day for which the National Weather Service has forecast, within the next 48 hours, a heat index of at least 95 degrees Fahrenheit for the member’s sevice area, for any member who is eligible for and has applied for LIHEAP assistance under IC 4-4-33 during the current calendar year.
Energy Assistance Program (EAP) applications and support services are administered through local community action agencies and service providers throughout Indiana in partnership with the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA).
