High Voltage Safety Demonstration

High Voltage Keep Out Sign

Each year in the United States, hundreds of people are killed and more than 10,000 are injured from electrical accidents in the home. At work, electricity causes more than 300 deaths each year. These experiences are not “freak accidents.” In fact, most electrical injuries can be avoided, provided you take the time to learn some safety skills.

Kankakee Valley REMC’s High Voltage Demonstration is available to educate the public on the importance of electrical safety. The high voltage safety demonstration shows some of the dangers of coming in contact with overhead and underground electrical equipment using a kite string, a replica of a squirrel, and a tree branch. But, perhaps the most eye catching part of the demonstration is how the hot dog, that simulates human flesh, is burned when coming in contact with high voltage lines.

The high voltage safety demonstration trailer sends a sobering but clear message to stay away from electricity, especially downed lines. If taking this trailer out to area events and educating the community helps to save one individual in danger, it has served its purpose and is worth the time spent. A high voltage demonstration for smaller groups is also available using a table top presentation unit.

Kankakee Valley REMC offers high voltage safety demonstrations to schools, groups and other organizations. If you would like to inquire on having a high voltage demonstration at your next event or meeting please call our office at our main number at (800) 552-2622 or our local number at (219) 733-2511.
