What is Community Solar?

Community solar is an affordable, low risk way for Kankakee Valley REMC members to enjoy the benefits of solar energy without the hassle of permitting, installing and maintaining the system at your home. Solar power is one of the most environmentally-friendly forms of energy. When compared to a non-renewable source of energy such as coal and natural gas, solar power is cleaner, safer and more reliable, but it can be expensive to purchase and install on your own.

Through the Kankakee Valley REMC community solar program, the solar equipment is located at the Kankakee Valley REMC headquarters and services by a trained technician.

Community Solar Details

Kankakee Valley REMC members can purchase the energy output from a solar panel for a one-time investment of $750. Through the Community Solar program, Kankakee Valley REMC will maintain and insure the array. The solar energy produced by the panels each month will be credited to the participating member on their electric bill.
