Free Electric Water Heater & Electric Water Heater Maintenance

The REMC will provide a free electric water heater to members for new construction, conversions from other fuel sources to electric or for replacement of unrepairable electric water heaters. Conditions set forth below must also be met.

Members may arrange for their own installation of the water heater or it may be installed by an REMC serviceman. The cost for installation by the REMC is $75.00, payable at the time of installation.

The member must arrange their own installation if extensive plumbing or wiring work is required.*

Free service for electric water heaters remains available at this time.

Conditions:

• Program applies to residential services. Other applications will be approved at the discretion of the REMC.
• Suitable plumbing and electrical wiring for the safe operation of the water heater must be in place.
• A 30 amp, 240 volt electric circuit must be in place to provide service to the water heater. The wire feeding the water heater must be a #10, with ground.
• Adequate space must be available to install and maintain a minimum size standard 52 gallon electric water heater.
• Any member receiving a free electric water heater must agree to participate in the REMC's load management program by allowing a load control switch to be installed when available.
• Any new or existing permanent home may receive a free electric water heater. A free electric water heater will not be provided to a member for use in a mobile home. Exceptions to this paragraph may be granted at the discretion of the REMC.
• Rental properties will require prior written permission from the property owner.
