As the attention is being directed more and more towards energy efficiency, it starts to make a person question just how efficient their house really is.
Is your house running efficiently when it comes to the heating and cooling equipment? How about your light bulbs, are you changing them out with CFL’s as they burn out?
Is the duct work in the house sealed, restricted or pinched in any way and insulated if in an unconditioned area?
These are just a few of the things that will be looked at and considered when I do an energy inspection in your home.
Kankakee Valley REMC started the Home Energy Inspection program over a year ago and the interest in the program has been amazing.
Every home is different with some of them being very efficient to some of them being very inefficient due to simple things that were brought to the attention of the owners at the time of the inspection.
Most of the problems to date have had to do with air infiltration and loss due to stack effect. This is what occurs as warm conditioned air is lost out of leaks at the upper part of the structure’s thermal envelope. As the warm air is lost, it in turn pulls air in from any lower areas that have holes and penetrations to the outside of the structure.
If you are a Kankakee Valley REMC member and interested in having an energy inspection done on your home, please give me a call so I can schedule a time to come out to your house.
At this time, it is still a free inspection but the program is being reviewed and a small fee might be added in the future.
There have been members that have called in the past and I have been unable to make contact with them. If you are one of those members, please call back so I can get new contact information for you.
