Heating and Cooling with Heat Pumps

Heat pumps, geothermal and air-source, are some of the most energy efficient and lowest operating cost heating/cooling systems available today. As you know, the current cost of fossil fuels, (natural gas, propane and fuel oil), has increased substantially. Heat pumps can save as much as 25-70% compared to the cost of a typical propane or fuel oil system with central air conditioning. Geothermal heat pumps may save 50 - 70% on your cost of heating/cooling and an air-source heat pump may save 25-45% when compared to gas furnaces with central air conditioning.

Because of the benefits of heat pumps to our members and to Kankakee Valley REMC, we strongly promote the use of those systems for all of our customers. We can provide you with basic information pamphlets explaining the principle of heat pump heating/cooling. Specific information regarding sizing and pricing for your home will need to be addressed through local heating/cooling dealerships.

Kankakee Valley REMC offers a one-time energy credit to members who install either an air-source heat pump or geothermal heat pump. The energy credit is $250 and is applied your monthly electric bill $50 per month for five consecutive months. There may also be tax credits available for some heat pump installations.
