Energy Advisor Program

For decades, local residents and businesses have turned to Kankakee Valley REMC for friendly, knowledgeable advice about getting the most value and efficiency from electricity. Now there’s an easy to find source for that help: Energy Advisors Jon Mack and Vern Rauen.

Jon Mack has been with Kankakee Valley REMC for 30 years and Vern for 23 years. Their understanding of the electric industry, along with training and experience with heating and cooling technology, provides them with the tools to assist our membership find the best ways to be energy efficient.

Kankakee Valley REMC has been offering the energy advisor program for several years in an effort to inform our members on services that we offer.

Our co-op’s Energy Advisors can help our members make sure that they have all the information they need to get the most from the electric power they use. Whether that involves helping them understand the choices available for heating and cooling their homes, showing them simple steps they can take to lower their energy bills, or just answering their general energy questions.

Providing such information has always been a part of Kankakee Valley REMC’s commitment. Electric cooperatives like ours were created as an affordable way to bring electricity to areas that weren’t being served by investor-owned utilities. When we started serving the area, electricity was something that was brand-new and often misunderstood. So the co-op employees had to educate the community about this new source of energy. Over time, homeowners and business people became accustomed to turning to us for help.

Today’s electric power is more reliable and depended upon then ever. Our cooperative is serving member-owners in ways our founders probably never imagined and we’re still the primary source of information.

As the co-op’s Energy Advisors, Jon and Vern receive special training to develop a better understanding of the needs of member-owners. In addition to assistance from our Energy Advisor’s, Kankakee Valley REMC offers a variety of brochures and publications in the lobby concerning heat pumps, geothermal energy and other matters that draw frequent questions.
